Written 2026-05-31, sorted through documentation/constitutional-core-test.md, and never moved — en-draft/ named the Swedish-to-English migration, not the maturity of the content. It sat outside every publishing folder for three months while constitutional/ had no typography page at all. status: proposed rather than accepted: the Detection section is marked PROPOSED — governance, needs sign-off, and the Open items below ask for confirmations that have not been given. The move is done; the ratification is not.

Draft — constitutional-core sort output (2026-05-31). Provenance is marked so the content boundary stays visible: (draft-xlat) is relocated from the unverified English translation foundation/en-draft/typography.md and still needs Torfinn's voice pass; PROPOSED is new scaffolding; everything else is structure. Sorted with documentation/constitutional-core-test.md — only lines passing detectable + constant + identity-defining are here; craft, spec, and contextual rules were routed out (see Open). Short by design.

PROPOSED — hook (ratified 2026-09-07, Torfinn). The typeface is as load-bearing as the palette — it carries the voice without sound. This file holds only what makes typography not Aleris. The scale, weights, spacing, and the reasoning live in principles/typography.md.

1. The typeface is Museo Sans, with Arial as fallback.

(draft-xlat) Museo Sans is the first choice in all Aleris communication — the Present Expert in typographic form. Arial is the fallback where Museo Sans isn't available (MS Office and similar systems). (Term note: the source translation read "the close expert"; updated here to the now-locked "Present Expert" — confirm.)

Implication: The typeface is identity, not preference. Another typeface is off-brand, the same way an off-palette colour is.

2. The non-negotiables

These are the choices that, if broken, make a surface not-Aleris.

(draft-xlat) Only Museo Sans, or Arial as the fallback. Never another typeface.
(draft-xlat) Sentence case throughout — headings, buttons, navigation, labels. Never all-caps. (Bounded exception: abbreviations such as MRI, AB. The rule doesn't reach them; inside its scope it never bends.)
The accessibility floor (no text below 14px or its equivalent) is referenced, not restated — see [[accessibility-is-foundational]].

Implication: Typeface and case hold everywhere. The scale, the weights, and the line-spacing are contextual and live in the essay; these do not.

Detection of violation

PROPOSED — governance (signed off 2026-09-07, Torfinn).

In a type audit. Non-Museo/Arial font families are flagged; all-caps runs are flagged (excluding abbreviations); text below 14px is flagged (the shared accessibility check).
In design review. Violations are returned with the failing element named.
On a live surface. A breach is logged against this file and fed back to principles/typography.md.

There is no override on typeface or case. The abbreviation exception is a scoped boundary — the rule simply doesn't apply to abbreviations — not a permission to break it.

The demoted rules. Never-italics-for-emphasis (craft), rem-not-px (contextual — digital only), keep-it-simple and the 8pt step (craft), and the two-weight mapping (spec) were routed to principles/typography.md and the token layer by the sort. Confirm.
Accessibility placement. The 14px floor is routed to [[accessibility-is-foundational]]; confirm that shared node is the home (Open #3 of the sorting test).
The "Present Expert" term update in §1 (was "close expert" in the draft translation).

Pointers redirected 2026-09-06. This page was written to sit above a principles/typography.md essay that was never built — principles/ holds two files and that is not one of them. Every reference to it now points at principles/typography.md, which is accepted, publishes, and carries what this page promises: the typographic scale, the two working weights, line spacing, and the hierarchy reasoning. The principles/ layer stays a later refactor (board card 134); this page is complete as it stands rather than sending a reader to nothing. (2026-09-07, Phase 0 step 4: the essay now exists at that path — the Foundation page moved there, so every pointer on this page resolves as first written and the redirect above is history. The layer question in card 134 is answered by the map that moved it.)
